Here is the 2nd installment of the awesome Frightened Rabbit Lick Session we held just before Christmas. This song is called My Backwards Walk and is from the critically acclaimed album Midnight Organ Fight, which came out on FatCat Records.

News of our next session will be posted soon, so keep your eyes peeled. Here are some clues: It isn’t Justin Timberlake, it isn’t Madonna, it might be the Rolling Stones, it isn’t Lady GaGa, it might be the cast of the musical Starlight Express, it isn’t Eddie Murphy, it may or may not be any or all or none of these.

We are incredibly excited and pleased to show you our first Lick Session, which was filmed before Christmas at the shop.

Scott Hutchison from Frightened Rabbit kindly came along to play three songs for us, to a tiny audience of our friends and the lucky people who noticed us put clues on our Facebook wall.

We are all now stuck between Christmas and New Years – a tricky time of the year. What should we really be doing with this time? Should we leave the tree up? Shall we keep eating the chocolate for breakfast and pistachio nuts for lunch? How long will the turkey last in the fridge? (I actually do want to know the answer to the last one)

All I know is this – if you’re not having the best time possible, you’re an idiot. It’s raining, town’s busy, dad’s drunk, but this young lady in photograph above doesn’t care, and neither should you. Get the brolly out and feed the ducks. 

We’ll be open again from the end of January, so please come by and tell us what you got for Christmas. If your resolution revolves around weight loss, then remember that Lick fro-yo is 100% fat-free – therefore the perfect guilt-free way to keep on treating yourself. And, if you like ‘new‘ stuff and ‘flavours‘ of things, then you’ll be interested to find out more about a ‘new flavour‘ fro-yo we could be introducing when we re-open. More on that soon!

These women had baked ten different cakes, from Battenburg to cheese cake to scones to sponges… So we armed ourselves with a Twinings English Breakfast tea and made a start on the judging. We were responsible for naming the ‘Best in Show‘ cake, and the winner would be awarded with a Lick tote bag, t-shirt, £10 voucher, and some CD’s donated by FatCat Records.

It took a good ten minutes of discussions to agree on the winner, but after scoring the short-listed cakes on skill, effort, appearance, taste, and bake-level, we finally decided that the Battenburg was the most superior cake in the room (and probably in Brighton).

You can see the winner in the photo above, and the rest of the WI in the group shot. Lovely girls, beautiful occasion, would love to do that again. Please.

If you think you could bake a better cake, simply bring it in to our shop and we’ll eat it all then tell you if it’s better.

The ELLE representative was very generous in her compliments of our fro-yo, and said “ELLE models j’adore Lick, it’s delicious, they go crazy over it, they can eat it by the tub because it’s fat-free, they’ve all been tweeting about it too. That’s typical of models… they fall in love with something and then it’s straight on Twitter to tell the world.”

Well, ELLE – you’re welcome to let your models feast on Lick as often as they want. Thanks for the kind words.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you The Creamy Jack Golden Ticket.

Starting from today, Creamy Jack will be wondering around town, planting secret Golden Tickets in random places in Brighton like between books in Waterstones, under napkins in cafes, placed in a coat pocket, left on a counter, put inside a paper! Half of the hiding places will be hinted at via clues that will go up on Facebook and Twitter, the other half will be left, cold and alone, waiting… for someone to find them by accident.

Whoever finds the tickets just has to take them into the store and exchange them for whatever prize is written on the back. Prizes can be anything from a Lick tote bag, to a years supply of fro-yo.

WHAT A RELIEF, then, that we’re going to be at The Haunt this Saturday night, giving away free Licks to the first 200 people ‘in da club’. There are two more things about this night that make it probably the best thing to do in the world this month:

• Halloween. It’s a Halloween night, so everyone’s going to be dressed up all scary n stuff. When people dress up, they go mad… as if this club wasn’t crazy enough, on Saturday night it’ll be kicked into another dimension.
• 80′s music. It’s probably the easiest music to dance to, which for people like me is a help. Also, nobody can look cool dancing to 80′s music, everyone just looks like they’re having the best stupid time they’ve ever had. So, all the idiots are forced out and you’re just left with radical people.

He was literally rolling around in piles of money, laughing to himself and shouting ‘I’M THE FROZEN KING OF FAT FREE DESSERTS AND RICH BEYOND MY CREAMIEST DREAMS‘.

Turns out he’s been making these Lick £5 and £10 gift vouchers for over 3 years. Initially he was intending to use them for the shop, so people could buy them for friends or family as an absolutely fantastic gift on a birthday or at Christmas, but once he made a few and saw the pile grow, he got greedy and imagined how much fro-yo he could get with it. He kept on making the vouchers, and kept hiding them away in small spaces like under the bed, or inside the TV (he took his TV apart, emptied it out, then filled it with vouchers. So he doesn’t have an actual TV any more, but he prefers it anyway – it caused him to read more books and start up a new hobby: self-portrait painting). In the end Creamy Jack had over £7,000,000,000,000 in Lick vouchers – all for himself! WHAT A GREEDY LITTLE MASCOT!

Anyway, I twisted his arm behind his back and told him to pull himself together. The vouchers are now available from the store.

When CJ normalised I managed to get a lovely photo of him showing off the beautiful vouchers.

I often think back to my uni days and wish I could experience those three years again. Well, I cant. What I did do though was go along to the Brighton Freshers Fair at Brighton Racecourse and hand out free Licks to all the new students.

Wow – free stuff goes down well with the poor. We ran out of fro-yo with 2 hours left to go, security people had to try to manage the queue then gave up in despair and then joined one of the many queues for a fro-yo. We were told not to hand out stickers but handed them out anyway, so…

We definitely had the most vibing stall at the fair. I took photos of all the students who came and hung out with us, they’re on our Facebook page now and will be on our photowall shortly. Please, go and tag yourself and anyone else you know in there.

Spread the word, students – 10% off for all of you all of the time. You don’t even need to show your NUS card, we’ll just believe you.

Fancy running about like Jason Bourne for a day? Imagine it – using your skills to break codes, dodge stuff, fight people*, find other codes etc.

Well – how about this: You can do it tomorrow (23rd Sept). Turn up at the Brighton Dome at 11am (probably get there a little before that to be safe) with a team of under 6 people, get ‘briefed’ then off you go to do the Brighton QR Treasure Hunt. The cleverest people win a load of stuff from different places, and i imagine even the rubbish people will get free stuff too. TOTALLY worth it.

Get the ticket and read more info here – all you need is a smart phone, because it uses some pretty modern technology, like QR codes. Know what a QR code is? I didn’t, so i looked at Wikipedia.

ALL the profits from this event go to the wonderful Rockinghorse charity.

Oh – and we’re involved in this, so will be handing out free stuff to anyone taking part.
